Why not contributing to thc-ipv6 and/or IPv6 toolkits themselves?

smaller than that of nmap.

FWIW, IPv6 toolkit (http://www.si6networks.com/tools/ipv6toolkit) runs
on {Free, Net, Open}BSD, Linux, and Mac OS, and we have been doing
quite a bit of effort to integrate it better with these operating
systems. -- as a heads up, the IPv6 toolkit is now available in the
package system of each of the aforementioned OSes (including packages
for several Linux distributions).

Me, if you're going to contribute to nmap development, I'd say
"something that has not been implemented by thc-ipv6 or ipv6 toolkit".
-- that would increase the functionality available to IPv6 practitioners.
Thanks!
